Pandora – The World of Avatar Revealed
Animal Kingdom’s newest attraction, Pandora – The World of Avatar now has an official opening date of May 27, announced by Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger during last week’s quarterly earnings call.
“Our imagineers have brought the breathtaking world of Pandora to life through astonishing feats of artistic genius and groundbreaking engineering,” Iger said, adding, “This is a very big land with an extremely unique design and architecture because it really does make you feel as though you’re in Pandora, that great world that Jim Cameron created, and an E-ticket attraction that is unlike any E-ticket attraction that we’ve ever built.”
Shortly after the announcement, a new website dedicated to the new land launched at VisitPandora.com, giving fans a look at the attraction’s web and social media strategy in the run-up to opening day.
The site takes on the guise a marketing site for Alpha Centauri Expeditions (ACE), giving visitors a summary of the adventures visitors can expect to experience.
Starting off in The Valley of Mo’Ara, (the overarching theme of the new land) the site promises an experience, “where you don’t climb over mountains—you hike under them. It’s where the night sky comes alive with a bioluminescent glow.”
On a trip down the Pandoran River, guests can expect to cruise, “into the darkest part of the forest,” where they’ll find themselves, “surrounded by a canopy of exotic glowing plants and amazing animals on the move.”
Finally, Flight of Passage will challenge visitors to a Pandoran rite-of-passage with a flight on a mountain banshee, “one of the most important and culturally significant animals to the Na’vi.”
On the About Us page, visitors can get acquainted with ‘The ACE Team,’ a collection of scientists, and experts who, according to the Disney Blog, will soon be acting as travel guides at VisitPandora.com, answering visitor questions and posting photos and videos of their expeditions to the site’s twitter and instagram accounts.
